Laura Silver is an Artist and Certified Death Doula, living in Calgary, Alberta. Raised in what is now Clarington, Ontario, she spent many hours at the Visual Arts Centre (formerly, “The Old Mill) – often excused from school to study oil painting, watercolour and drawing with people decades older. When Laura was actually IN school, her favourite class by far was art, led by the talented and inspiring Jane Eccles.
Laura’s artistic passions run through various media but are mainly focused on painting and textile work. Many years have been focused on “The Art of Small Things” – taking microscopic images, blowing them up, and interpreting the symmetry and beauty found in what we can’t see with the naked eye. Deep spirituality and a love of quantum physics influence her work.
At the age of fifty-four, Laura is thrilled to be heading to the Alberta University of the Arts to embark on the quest for a Bachelor of Fine Arts. This blog/website focuses on the discovery of herself as an artist, and on highlighting the work of female artists from around the world – and finding out about their processes.
